A Conversation With A Man // Psychological Racism is a three-channel installation that examines the realities of individuals in Trenton NJ, during the Covid-19 pandemic. Through candid street interviews, we learn of racial dynamics and systemic injustices that are prevalent in American society.
The first interview features an African American man discussing the legacy of racism in America, comparing today’s society to the Jim Crow era. He talks about psychological racism and how it creates barriers for black men who suffer the consequences of the criminal justice system.
The second interview features an African American homeless man selling beverages on the street. His story reveals his struggle with the law and how he has been forced to make “wrong” choices due to poverty.
Through these interviews combined with the large projection of the homeless man’s gaze toward the crowd, this piece offers a reflection on the impacts of racial inequality.
